Even the Fresh Prince of Bel Air knows that speaking to your biggest fan about your sports career, isn't always fun. Parents of athletes can vary from overprotective and fearful for your safety, to a gung-ho second coach (you didn't ask for) at home.

For better or for worse, parents will always force their opinions on you about your sports career. And, your options for physical therapy are no different.

Dealing with an Overprotective Parent

So you’re parents aren’t too happy about you getting injured at least once a season, and maybe they want you to drop contact sports all together. What can you do?

If physical therapy is a part of your recovery plan, explain to your parents how a program to help you recover can turn into fewer injuries (get stats). Aquatic physical therapy in particular is great at giving athletes a sense of technique as they recover.

Dealing with a Coach at Home

Your parent might want you to just focus on how you can get back in the game and nothing else; educate them!

Physical therapy can actually reduce the time you’re on the bench by (get stat) because it enlists active recovery and resistance training techniques.

So, while your parent might be focused more on how to beg your coach for forgiveness to get you back on he playing field, let them understand that recovery is your primary concern and will only help prolong your career as an athlete.
